» Frightfest 2009 Round Up
Frightfest was on top form this year, a celebration or trashy, gory and down right scary horror films in Leicester Square. The good people at Total Film did a round up of the weekend, although criminally fail to mention Marc Price’s Colin, the film made for a mere £45.00. Both of the Colin screenings sold out and it was the talk of the event…well that and John Landis shouting ‘Fuck You Warner Brothers’ during a Q&A….!

» Is Bad The New Good?
Interesting piece on Tommy Wiseau’s The Room, which is quickly becoming the most talked about cult film in London. The Prince Charles Cinema and the Barbican are both screening it in September, it’s a unique cinematic experience, and worth a watch - especially with a group of friends.

» New Trailer for The Imaginarium of Dr.Parnassus
One of the most talked about films in Cannes this year, was the out of competition offering from Terry Gilliam. As well as being a renowned director in his own right, the former Python star was also at the helm of Heath Ledger’s last cinematic outing before his death in 2008. He passed away during the shooting for the film, and instead of recast his character, Gilliam employed the talents of Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell to take over from Ledger via a plot device which sees Dr. Parnassus change his appearance.
The trailer looks as if Gilliam might be back on form…

R.I.P. John Hughes. Prolific writer, director and producer of some of the most successful, original and genre defining films of the last 30 years. His films were unique in that they presented teenage life in a way that it had never been depicted before, highlighting both the importance and overall absurdity of the transisitonal years before adulthood. Whilst he didin’t direct a film after Curly Sue in the early ‘90’s he continued to write and produce throughout the 90’s and into the 00’s - the last feature to have his name attached was 2008’s Drillbit Taylor.
I always preferred to hang out with the outcasts, ‘cause they were cooler; they had better taste in music, for one thing, I guess because they had more time to develop one with the lack of social interaction they had! -John Hughes
