» London Film Festival - off to a good start.
Have had a busy week at the London Film Festival…

Following Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr.Fox, which opened the festival on Wednesday, we’re 3 days in and still alot to come. Next week there’s Up In The Air from Juno director Jason Reitman, Toy Story 2 in 3D, A Serious Man, The White Ribbon and The Road to name but a few.

Last week amongst the bigger galas, were some excellent small or less well known productions. Personally my favourite so far is Inferno and most bizarre experience has been Gasper Noe’s follow up to Irreversible, called Enter the Void. For 2.5 hours it assaults the audiences senses, in the most intense and at times beautiful way, not one for the fainthearted, but must be watched with an audience to fully realise it’s potential.

» Cinema Manager Takes Up Movie Watching Challenge!
Dallas at the lovely Belmont Picturehouse in Aberdeen takes up a movie challenge inspired by the new film, JULIE & JULIA. Instead of recipes however, Dallas will work his way through the recent(ish) Empire top 500 movie list over the course of one year. It means he has to fit it around his personal and professional life, and must average at 1.35 movies a day!
Wish him luck on Twitter; @Dallas_Belmont, Good luck sir!
(Hope it doesn’t resort to this…)

» Happy 10th Birthday SPACED!
Director, Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) reminded his Twitter fans that today is the 10th anniversary of the popular (and in my opinion, groundbreaking) Channel 4 British TV series Spaced.
If you’ve not seen the series yet, please check it out. It is on DVD in both region 1 & 2 in a fetching boxset with some excellent commentaries and bonus features.
As well as being hilarious, it also successfully launched the careers of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, Jessica Hynes and Nick Frost.

Please keep an eye on the site - and if you’re lucky enough to be living near a cinema which is taking part - it would be great to show your support for the film…and helping stop climate change!

» R.I.P. Patrick Swayze
Patrick Swayze has had a very prominent career, from 80’s classics including Dirty Dancing to his recent revival with acclaimed performances on US TV shows. We’ll miss the star of Donnie Darko, Ghost, Roadhouse but most importantly to me - Point Break. RIP sir.

» London Film Festival Line Up Announced - See The Hottest Films of 2009 and 2010 Before Anyone Else.
Great line-up this year, as well as having some exciting premieres on the line up, it also features some of the big yet still unreleased films from Cannes 2009. Look out for Enter The Void, Dogtooth, Precious and The White Ribbon from Cannes. World premieres include Wes Anderson’s new film, The Fantastic Mr. Fox…starring George Clooney, who stars in at least 3 of the major films of the festival (Men Who Stare at Goats and Up In The Air also). Looks like even the LFF aren’t immune to his charms!
